Telematics Platform & CO2 Research

A service-oriented telematics platform, plus a £300k CO2 research project. As Software Architect at a top UK automotive OEM (2016–2018), I designed platform services for the telematics module and led a research collaboration with Loughborough University.

The case study

Technologies: telematics, hypervisor, service-oriented architecture, embedded C/C++, industry–academia research collaboration

The challenge
  • Telematics features kept growing on a tightly coupled software base

  • Every change was slower and riskier than it needed to be

  • Growing pressure across the industry to reduce vehicle CO2 emissions

My approach
  • Hypervisor-based platform separating workloads on the telematics module

  • Service-oriented architecture: platform capabilities as well-defined services

  • Led a £300k research collaboration with Loughborough University on using software and data to cut CO2

  • A reusable, service-oriented foundation for telematics features

  • Research that contributed to vehicle CO2 reduction work

  • I also guest lecture on automotive software engineering at Loughborough
