Vehicle Lifecycle System

Coordinated power modes and lifecycle states across the vehicle's ECUs. At a premium UK automotive OEM, I'm Product Owner for vehicle lifecycle management in the cockpit domain: shaping the backlog, prioritising defects and taking features through programme gates.

The case study

Technologies: ECU lifecycle and power-mode management, state machines, multi-ECU coordination, Agile / Scrum product ownership, ASPICE

The challenge
  • A car moves through many states: asleep, waking, driving, charging, updating

  • Every ECU must agree on the current state and switch at the right moment

  • Getting it wrong means slow start-ups, missing features or a drained 12V battery

My approach
  • A defined set of lifecycle states and power modes, with clear transition rules

  • Coordinated transitions so start-up and shutdown happen in a controlled order

  • Safe wake-up and shutdown, letting work in progress finish before power-down

  • Features broken into increments and tracked through programme gates

  • Lifecycle features delivered through programme gates for the cockpit domain

  • Power-mode behaviour coordinated across ECUs
